Transit Visa to Russia for Foreign Citizens

Foreign citizens transiting through Russia need to understand the transit visa requirements. This guide covers all scenarios and exceptions.

Transit without a visa (airside transit): citizens of most countries can stay in the international zone of Russian airports for up to 24 hours without a visa, provided they don't pass through passport control.

Countries requiring a transit visa even for airside transit: a limited list maintained by the Russian MFA. Check with your nearest Russian consulate.

Land/rail transit: always requires a transit visa regardless of nationality. This applies to Trans-Siberian Railway passengers, drivers, and bus travelers.

Application requirements: valid passport, completed form, photo, proof of onward travel (tickets), valid visa for destination country, travel insurance.

Duration: transit visas are issued for up to 10 days. The actual duration granted depends on your transit route and schedule.
